The Benefit team is responsible for the processing and maintaining of Housing Benefit/Council Tax Reduction applications that are received for the borough. We ensure this is done in accordance with the regulations and procedures that are in place and completed in a timely manner.
As a Benefit Officer you will undertake work concerning Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction, and ensure that the Benefits computer databases are maintained at all times. You will deal with incoming enquiries and contact customers via telephone, writing or face-to-face. You will be able to prioritise your workload and meet deadlines, along with having the ability to work well within a team and on your own initiative.
Decision making plays a big part in this role, and therefore you must be able to make decisions in accordance with the policies and procedures that are set out.
You must have a minimum of 3 GCSEs or equivalent at grade c or above which include Maths and English, or demonstrate the appropriate level of skills or experience. Have experience of using IT productivity tools that include word processors and spreadsheets, and the ability of using internet based services.
