About the role
East Sussex County Council is looking to recruit an Independent Fostering Panel Chair to join our Fostering Panel and chair regular panel meetings.
The Fostering panel has oversight of the following: recruitment, assessment and review of foster carers and connected persons. Panel members together make decisions on suitability of foster carer applicants in the long and short term.
We invite applicants who have previous experience professionally and/or personally with looked after children in foster care/with kinship carers or away from birth family.
Salary: £500 per panel meeting (Inclusive of preparation work)
We are a seeking an independent Panel Chair who is committed to innovative practice, supporting our aim to provide high quality foster care, and achieving the best possible outcomes for our children.
Panels take place on average once a month, but there are times when extra panels are required.
- You will have professional knowledge and experience of children being cared for away from their birth families in fostering placements.
- You should have the ability to chair a complex meeting where a wide variety of views may be expressed.
- You will have excellent oral and written communication skills.
- You must have the ability to facilitate the active participation of all panel members to identify key issues assisting panel to reach robust recommendations regarding the approval of foster carers or their ongoing registration.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
