Job introduction

About Us

In our Adult Social Care social work service we passionately believe that putting relationship-based practice at the centre of everything we do enables us to provide consistent and quality support to citizens within the city so that they can lead independent and fulfilled lives. Brighton & Hove has a unique demographic which makes it a challenging yet very rewarding place to work. Working closely with our partner agencies, we continue to be at the forefront of making a positive difference in challenging times.

But we can’t realise our ambition to become a centre of excellence and best practice without dedicated and motivated social workers and strong, creative leaders. Does this sound like you?

About the role

The work of our team is very varied, and if you come to work with us you will have the opportunity to build a broad portfolio of experience, working with teams committed to your professional development. Our work includes, for example, strengths-based practice with adults of all ages, people with substance misuse issues, people living with mental health issues and people who may be at risk of homelessness.

Opportunities may be in mental health services,* physical health services, or hospital teams and both part-time and full-time opportunities may be available.

About you

You must be a qualified Social Worker and be registered with Social Work England.

You should have had experience of:

  • Working with diverse and complex situations and in multi-disciplinary contexts
  • Completing assessments and safeguarding enquiries using  the Care Act
  •  Working with people protected by DoLS and/or the provisions of the Mental Capacity Act.

You must also be able to:

  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Prioritise work in accordance with demand and risk
  • Promote and sustain professional relationships with a wide range of people including those with care needs, their family/carers, other professionals and relevant agencies

In return we will offer you regular 1-2-1 supervision meetings, bi-annual appraisals, a career average pension scheme, generous leave entitlement, flexible working opportunities plus a range of other staff benefits.

If you would like to know more about social work in Brighton and Hove Adults services, or have general questions about these posts, please contact Anna.Bouch@brighton-hove.gov.uk

*Please note: Warranted Approved Mental Health Act Professionals (AMHPs) will be encouraged to take part in rota arrangements for the AMHP provision across the city. The AMHP service operates from the AMHP team’s base at Millview Hospital in Hove. A market supplement of £1,5030 p.a. is paid for 30 days a year on this rota, subject to satisfactory adherence to the 2008 Regulations for AMHPs.

As part of your application, you will need to complete your education and work history and upload a supporting statement. Your supporting statement is the most important part of your application as it will be used in the shortlisting process to assess whether you meet the essential requirements for the role that are set out in the person specification and to decide whether you should be offered an interview. Before you start your application, please read our guidance here (Supporting statement guidance (brighton-hove.gov.uk)) as this gives important advice which will increase your chance of success in the shortlisting process.

Additional information

Regulations now require all staff who undertake work within CQC registered care homes to be fully vaccinated against Covid 19, unless they satisfy one of the medical/legal exemptions.  Being fully vaccinated or being medically/legally exempt will be a condition of your employment and you will be required to provide evidence of your vaccination status or medical/legal exemption as part of the recruitment process for this role

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.

Work Permits: We may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) Points-based Immigration System. Please see Gov.uk for more information on the Skilled Worker Visa.
