The starting salary for this role is £35,382 per annum based on a 36 hour working week.
The Highways Operations & Infrastructure group in the Highways and Transport Service provide excellent customer service in order to meet the demands of over 80,000 customer queries per year. Based in the Technical Support & Communication Team, the Senior Highway Customer Officers will lead a team who are the local face of the service, acting as the focal information point for customer enquiries and licence applications. The role is interesting and varied.
This is an important role that will be both front facing and responsible for managing a team of Highway Customer Officers. The role of the team is varied with different challenges each day; enquires can range from flooding and safety defects to highway license applications. The postholder will be expected to make sure they and their team uphold excellent customer care standards and communicate directly with a range of stakeholders, including residents and elected Members.
Reporting to the Highways Customer Officer Team Leader, you will be part of a team which needs to be flexible and deal with issues as they arise over a wide geographical area. It is expected that the team will be the eyes and ears on the ground and support significant or emergency events.
We are looking for highly motivated individuals who can make a valuable contribution towards maintaining the highway network. You will require strong management, organisational, communication and customer service skills. Experience of managing difficult and sometimes challenging conversations with stakeholders, both face to face and electronically, will be vital to this role.
You will have achieved a good standard of Secondary Education and/or an equivalent level of experience in customer facing maintenance. To manage this key area of work, we are looking for someone who is confident working on their own or as part of a larger team.

- Knowledge of highway authority works, materials and assets
- Experience of managing people and setting performance targets
- Experience of providing excellent customer service
- Ability to manage workloads and deal with conflicting priorities
- Experience of working on the highway with regards to personal safety and that of road users.
Due to the nature of the role, a full driving licence is essential.
