Make a difference to the lives of Young People in the Criminal Justice System

An exciting opportunity to join the Bracknell Forest Youth Justice Team as a Case Manager working with Young People subject to Statutory Court Orders or open to the Prevention Service.

This post is a fixed-term 12-month contract (Maternity Cover) and part-time (29 hours per week).

An exciting opportunity for a candidate with experience of working within the Youth Justice Sector to make a difference to the lives of Children in – or at risk of becoming involved with – the Criminal Justice System.

We’re looking for candidates with proven experience of working in the Criminal Justice System or Child Protection who are skilled in assessing need and risk, considering different aspects of people’s lives. This role may suit those with experience of working in the Probation Service/CRC, those with experience of working in Child Protection or retired Police Officers.

Our multi-disciplinary team sit within Children’s Services. There is a strong culture of mutual support among practitioners and readily available support and guidance from an experienced Operations Manager.

You will be supported to carry out the following duties, responsibilities and training…

  • To prepare timely and high quality pre sentence reports for the Youth and Crown Court, in accordance with National Standards deadlines and requirements, to assist in the judiciary in the sentencing process
  • To manage a statutory caseload, assess and work with children and young people aged 10 -18 through all stages of the criminal justice process including pre court, through the duration of court orders and through and after custodial sentences, ensuring that a sentence plan is put in place to address individual need and vulnerability, risk of reoffending, and risk of harm to the public
  • To assess and work with a caseload of young people ‘at risk’ of offending to deliver individual support programmes designed to prevent young people offending and entering the Criminal Justice System for the first time.
  • To co-ordinate a holistic plan around the child/young person involving, their parents/carers and families to address the risk factors which contribute to offending behaviour and strengthen protective factors to reduce the risk of offending and reoffending.
  • To enforce Youth and Crown Court Orders in accordance with National Standards, presenting breaches in the Youth and Crown court.To work in partnership with other professionals involved in the management of child protection and children 'in need' cases.
  • To provide Court duty service to East Berkshire Youth Court on a rota basis, and to participate in the YJT 's office duty and late cover services on a rota basis.
  • To participate in supervision / appraisal in accordance with Departmental procedure and all training appropriate to the role as directed by the YJT Operational Manager.
  • To carry out timely and comprehensive case recording in accordance with departmental procedure and the relevant National Standards.
  • To undertake all duties commensurate with the post in a way which promotes anti discriminatory practice
