Housing Assistant (Housing Led)

Barnsley MBC has a strategic commitment to end Rough Sleeping. Our vision is to provide people with the right accommodation and support to build their resilience and sustain independent living. Building on our successful response to the Governments “Everyone In” policy during the Covid-19 pandemic we are establishing a new team to help us achieve this vision.

The Housing Led Support Team will use evidenced based approaches to provide personalised, trauma informed support to people who are rough sleeping or who are at risk of rough sleeping. Support will be provided at the projects residential base or in the community.

We are looking for people who share our commitment and passion for ending rough sleeping. You will be able to work with people who have a range of needs and behaviours with empathy, patience and persistence.

As a Housing Assistant you will work with the Senior Support Worker and Handyperson/Receptionist to ensure the smooth running of the service during office hours. You will provide responsive duty cover at the project’s residential accommodation unit: ensuring the site is safe and any issues raised residents or visitors are responded to appropriately and promptly.

The role will involve assisting the Team Leader in monitoring the performance of the project as well as producing reports and information on performance to partners and senior managers. You will provide general support and assistance to Support Workers to help ensure the project meets it aims and objectives.

The right person will identify with the aims of the project. Essential skills you will possess include being an excellent communicator with the ability to work with vulnerable and, sometimes, challenging people.  You will possess good general IT skills and be able to use MS office packages including Excel.  A level 3 qualification is required for the post.

A lot to look forward to

So we’ve created a development process that lets you grow in the way that suits you - whether that’s training to be a leader, or learning flexibly online. That’s one of the reasons why we achieved IIP Gold, and why you’ll find your career here inspiring and rewarding.
