Undertake a range of specialist tasks including:
- Opening and closing of the gate at King Street to allow buses and other authorised vehicles into the Pedestrian area of Gravesend.
- Ensuring that the other gates around the town area are locked or opened as detailed in the Council’s procedures at the start or finish of each shift.
- To act as a point of contact for members of the public coming into the town area.
- To liaise with CCTV and the GSafe Radio system on any suspicious people passing through the gate area and to be observant at all times.
- Complying with legislation relating to health and safety of staff at work.
- Carrying out other functions as directed by Town Centre Manager from time to time.
The postholder should have a good general standard of education being both numerate and literate and possess effective communication and interpersonal skills.
The postholder must be an effective team worker but also able to work on his/her own initiative. He/she must be able to deal with possible stressfull and volatile situations in a calm manner whilst adopting a clear customer focus, tact and diplomacy being required at all times. He/she will also have to work outside at all times even in inclement weather.
He/she should be physically fit and there is a requirement to wear uniform, as provided, at all times during working hours which comprises of a job share basis covering Monday to Sunday up to 37 hours per week.

The postholder will carry out all duties and activities having regard to the provisions of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and in accordance with any instruction from senior members of staff under that Act, or any Council or Departmental codes of Practice or Procedures.
