About the role
The services delivered by the Communities, Economy and Transport department (CET) have an enormous impact on the lives of local people and the natural environment. From operating waste facilities and registration offices, to maintaining roads and major infrastructure planning, the moment an East Sussex resident steps outside their front door, they are interacting with our work. Therefore, roles in our department offer enormous scope to make a positive impact on the quality of life for people and the environment of East Sussex. We are looking for people who can help us to improve the links between the areas we operate in, such as using libraries, improving adult literacy, transporting vulnerable people to the shops to help keep them independent or installing high speed broadband to support businesses to modernise.
Within the Transport Hub, we provide vital connections into the public transport network across the county to help people go about their daily lives, from getting their shopping done to visiting family and friends. We transport thousands of children to school every day, we provide transport for some of the most vulnerable people in our area and we help people who don’t have the opportunity to access public or private transport. We help public transport services to change and adapt to infrastructure and demands, by doing things like supporting the introduction of real-time passenger information at bus stops or re-routing services around roadworks. Ultimately, we see it as our job to “keep the wheels running” around the county.
As well as being an exceptional leader, the Principal Transport Officer needs to be a great communicator who is able to work well in partnership. With a primary focus on home-to-school transport, you will need to be able to prioritise the work of your team to ensure we deliver a great joined up service. A good understanding of budget management, contract management and safeguarding is essential, as you and your team will need to work with a variety of transport operators to ensure our customers receive a quality service that represents good value for money.
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
Due to the restrictions we cannot guarantee that individuals that meet the requirements of the Points-based Immigration System will be issued with clearance to obtain work permits.
East Sussex County Council is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from all suitable candidates, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age. All applications are treated on merit.
