About the role
Data to Insight is a national collaborative project led by local authorities with staff hosted by East Sussex County Council. Our mission is to help local authorities make better use of children’s services data, and we do this by:
- developing and maintaining shared analysis tools
- helping best practice spread across local and regional boundaries
- convening partnerships to deliver specific collaborative data projects
- enabling learning to build skills and capacity for excellent data work
The Data Analyst role is a new post created with funding from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities. We are looking for a motivated and adaptable data professional who is excited to use their skills to benefit a national community of users and stakeholders. Duties will be split between supporting our funded Early Help Data Standards project – a two-year project to explore and develop standard approaches to collecting and reporting Early Help data across five English regions – and supporting the core Data to Insight toolkit and services to all English local authorities.
The role will combine data tool development and maintenance – predominantly in Excel – with project support and user research elements. With a significant proportion of the role focused on our Early Help data standards project, there will also be a requirement to support the wider Data to Insight community and toolkit, including maintaining data tools, supporting community members, and contributing to other projects fitting the role’s skills profile.
While an understanding of children’s services data and the specific technologies we use will be a great help, we are less interested in the specific knowledge you already have than in your ability to thrive in our flexible and collaborative working environment. We will work as a team, playing to each member’s strengths and personal development goals where possible. We believe wholeheartedly in Data to Insight’s capacity to improve data work in children’s services, helping local authorities help each other to improve, and will seek to embody this philosophy in all our work.
The role is initially funded for 24 months and may appeal therefore to an individual already working within any LA children’s services department either as a secondment opportunity or as a new post. Equally we would be pleased to consider applicants with experience from other LA departments, the third and commercial sectors.
As a predominantly home-based role, we encourage applicants regardless of their location within the UK but note that the role will require attending meetings and events in the regions. The normal work base could also be from one of several office locations within the country – subject to agreement with the hiring manager who is based in Lewes in East Sussex.
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
Due to the restrictions we cannot guarantee that individuals that meet the requirements of the Points-based Immigration System will be issued with clearance to obtain work permits.
East Sussex County Council is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from all suitable candidates, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age. All applications are treated on merit.
