Medway operates a successful Internal Audit & Counter Fraud Shared Service with Gravesham Borough Council and we are looking for a knowledgeable and highly motivated Senior Internal Auditor, with the ability to help evaluate and improve the effectiveness of the councils’ risk management, governance and control processes.
The post holder will be expected carry out audit reviews of a complex nature in various service areas of both councils, assessing the effectiveness of the control environment and making appropriate recommendations for improvement where necessary. These reviews must be carried out within set timescales, so effective time management is key and the individual must be able to manage their own workload. The post holder will also be required to provide advice to senior management on governance, risk management & control matters, therefore excellent communication skills are essential. In addition, they will be required to co-ordinate the service’s follow up of all agreed audit recommendations to ensure improvements to the control framework have been implemented.
The successful applicant will be expected to work across both council sites within Chatham and Gravesend as required. There will be opportunities for home working as service needs allow.
Good standard of academic education, and practical experience within internal audit or relevant function.
Demonstrable experience of undertaking research and evaluation of a variety of sources of information, including undertaking analysis and testing of data sets.
Experience of delivering high quality internal audit work.
Ability to write complex reports which explain business process and demonstrate an awareness of issues relating to fraud, value for money, equality and diversity, legislative compliance and data quality.
Positive and enthusiastic approach.
Self-motivated and able to work independently, managing own workload
