About the role
St Mary’s is a residential special school and college for children with a range of special educational needs, including speech, language and communication, autism and other associated difficulties. We are looking to appoint enthusiastic, flexible and innovative teachers.
We welcome applications from highly successful and experienced primary, secondary, mainstream or special school teachers. We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates who have successfully worked with children who have more significant learning difficulties and needs.
We would like to appoint a practitioner who is able to adapt well to new challenges and is committed to raising achievement, has the ability to demonstrate outstanding practice and high ambition for our pupils and students. The successful candidate will be especially skilled in differentiating planning, implementing additional support programs to meet pupils’ specific needs and who is able to manage a support staff team.
This is an exciting time to work at St Mary’s; Following a challenging period, the school is now successfully working with nearby Torfield and Saxon Mount special schools to secure continued improvements. New staff joining the school will play a key role in shaping the future of the school and implementing change in order to make the best possible provision for our pupils. We offer a high quality learning environment, access to excellent resources and our pupils are a delight to work with!
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
Knowledge & understanding of students with Autism & speech, language & communication needs;
• An understanding & interest in SEN, with experience in working with pupils requiring additional support in accessing the curriculum;
• The ability to ensure aspirational pupil progress for all pupils, regardless of their prior attainment, which is usually significantly below age related expectations;
• The ability to work effectively within a team, providing direction to support staff delivering targeted intervention programmes
St Mary’s is an equal opportunities employer. The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Successful applicants are required to undergo an enhanced DBS check
