About the Post:
This post operates on an any 5 from 7 basis with the weekly work pattern varying to total 18.5hrs per week including regular evening work with Children and Young People aged 11-25yrs, team members and professional partners. This post does also require some weekend work and the occasional overnight residential experience.
The Targeted Youth Support Service is looking for an enthusiastic individual to join the Youth Voice and Participation Team to provide youth voice support to young people aged 11 – 25yrs who are eligible to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) or Children in Care/Care leaver plans, strategies and interventions.
You will be employed for 18.5 hours per week to support existing structures and pathways that enable the voice and views of these groups of Young People to be considered in the development of strategies and services that affect them and their individual needs in a way that is fully participatory and independent to statutory services.
The primary remit of this role is to work with other Youth Voice Team members to support the work of Barnsley’s Youth Voice forums such as the SEND Youth Forum and Care4US Council and Youth Council to ensure that young people can have an influence over the services they receive locally, regionally and nationally.
You will establish and maintain informal positive and professional relationships with this cohort of young people via events and face to face sessions in schools, youth groups and outreach work the community whilst supporting a range of youth consultations across council services and partner organisations. The post holder will work across a variety of settings including schools, youth groups and out in the community to meet the needs of young people in their own environments.
The role will provide direct face to face support and will work alongside the teams Youth Voice and Participation Coordinators to support the formal and informal interface with stakeholders and decision makers. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate a proven track record in engaging and motivating young people using creative methods and approaches.
