Medway Council manages a highway network of over 840km and the Streetworks Team is responsible for co-ordinating and managing all works undertaken on the public highway. The team sits within the wider Highways service and currently works under a Permit Scheme model.
As one of three Network Officers, you will be responsible for co-ordinating, approving and managing a geographical area, using the Permit Scheme to enable requested works and ensuring statutory requirements are met. You will deal with public utility companies, as well as developers, Medway Council’s Highway Contractor and internal teams, who want to work on the highway and therefore a high level of effective communication skills are required. In addition, excellent ICT skills are needed, as the service is delivered via bespoke software system.
The role will also include managing licensing schemes within the remit of the team, issuing Fixed Penalty Notices, analysing data and undertaking other duties to assist in the effective delivery of the service.
You will need a keen eye for detail, be able to adhere and deliver to statutory timescales and legal requirements. Knowledge of the Traffic Management Act, New Roads and Street Works Act and Permit schemes is preferable.
The team is based at our head office, Gun Wharf and in addition to the Network Officers there are 3 Inspectors and a Technical Support Officer, all managed by the Streetworks Manager.
Please note that parking is not provided for office based roles, at Gun Wharf, but there are a number of council owned carparks close by. We work a 37 hour week, from Monday to Friday, with hours between 7.30am and 5pm.
