About the role
Fareham currently has 89,749 registered electors across 15 wards with a total of 65 polling districts. There are currently no parishes in the borough and our next scheduled election is due in May 2022.
As the Electoral Services Manager you’ll be responsible for organising all local and national elections, referendums and polls in accordance with legislation. You’ll also lead on and manage the legal compilation, publication and maintenance of the Register of Electors.
You’ll provide expert advice and support to the Electoral Registration Officer, the Returning Officer and deputies including the Head of Democratic Services on all electoral matters.
You’ll manage the Electoral Service team who deal with customer enquiries on registering and methods of voting. You will also oversee the appointment of a large number of casual elections staff who support the Electoral process throughout the year.

You’ll need political awareness, a sound knowledge of electoral legislation and the ability to interpret and apply it along with the AEA Certificate of Electoral Administration or willingness to work towards the accreditation.
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and has the ability to lead and motivate the team to work to the best of their abilities. A customer orientated approach is essential along with excellent communication skills to engage with people at all levels of the Council.
Due to the nature of the role during Election periods you will need the ability to work well under pressure and balance conflicting priorities. A flexible working attitude and the ability to work outside normal office hours will be essential along with excellent ICT skills.
