The Public Health Evidence and Intelligence (Joint Strategic Needs Assessment) team is part of Hertfordshire County Council. In order to improve the health of our residents we need to understand their needs. The JSNA team provide internal and external stakeholders access to robust evidence to inform decision making related to health and its wider determinants. The JSNA sub-team undertakes assessments of the health and social care needs of the population to inform commissioning and strategy across the system. We utilise a range of evidence and skills to do this, including evidence review, stakeholder engagement, statistical analysis and gap analysis.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be a key member of a team committed to encouraging and enabling an evidence-based approach to improving the health of Hertfordshire residents. You will assist the JSNA Researcher in undertaking day to day work on the JSNA production process, collating/undertaking rapid literature reviews, interpreting findings from the data and mapping out current service provision. You will also help analyse, interpret and present quantitative data using appropriate statistical methods.
A degree in Public Health, social sciences or other relevant subject or equivalent work experience is required for this role. You will have knowledge of epidemiology and statistics, public health principles, literature searching techniques and spreadsheet software packages. You will have a demonstrable recent experience working with datasets (quantitative & qualitative), report writing and communicating a range of information, to varied audiences using a range of media.
You will have excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and demonstrate the ability to present complex information to a non-specialist audience, maintain positive working relationships with JSNA stakeholders and also effectively manage expectations. You will demonstrate tact and diplomacy and an ability to understand other cultures to enable effective working across organisational boundaries and influencing without authority. You will facilitate an evidence-based approach to commissioning and decision-making by demonstrating intellectual rigour and flexibility.
You will manage work so that deadlines are met and work to achieve the highest standard while coping with multiple changing demands often in a challenging environment.
