In 2019, West Lancs declared a climate emergency and developed and launched a Climate Change Strategy in 2020. The Strategy sets out the vision for the Council to aspire to be carbon neutral by 2030. The strategy includes a number of challenging targets and is fully supported by Members who have been proactively taking forward the actions and promoting change in their communities. We aim to reduce emissions through our fleet and transport options as well as our housing stock and commercial premises. We also want to work in communities promoting supporting groups to deliver climate change and also protect our natural environment. To help us deliver the Strategy aims, we have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated self- starter to help us to deliver our challenging ambitions.
The successful candidate will work across Council departments, supporting opportunities for external funding and playing a key role in promoting and embedding our approach in all plans. The post holder will be proactive in researching opportunities for the Council to achieve its targets and will develop and submit funding bids to access external funding where appropriate. Skilled in negotiation, an analytical approach and the ability to work in a fast- paced environment are essential.
