You’ll be working at the heart of local democracy, supporting Councillors and Senior Officers to make important decisions that affect the lives of residents across the Borough of Tunbridge Wells.
It’s a great opportunity for someone with extensive Democratic Services knowledge, with excellent line management skills to lead two high performing team and make the role their own.
The Democratic Services team administers the decision-making meetings at the Council, and provides support to elected members. The role will be to manage the team, and be directly responsible for administering Full Council, Management Board and Leadership Board – our highest level of meetings. You will also manage the support provided for civic events and matters relating to the Mayor of the Borough.
The Executive Support team provides high level personal assistant support to the Chief Executive, Directors, the Leader of the Council and the Mayor. The team administers internal meetings, supports civic events, and provides administrative support around a range of matters, including MP Enquiries. The role will be to manage this team and ensure that work is delivered to a high standard, and support is given where necessary.
Holding the ADSO Certificate in Democratic Services Knowledge is desirable but not essential.
You need to be confident and able to give accurate and timely advice to the most senior officers in the organisation, and to work effectively with a range of different people, from senior Council members, to report writers and members of the public.
A high level of accuracy, the ability to work under pressure to meet statutory deadlines, and a flexible attitude are essential.
Please be aware that this role requires frequent working outside of normal hours to service committee meetings, which are delivered in person in the Town Hall (starting usually at 6pm or 6.30pm).
