This is a full time position, however part-time applications (minimum of 3 days per week) will also be considered. The salary for this position is Teacher's Main Pay Scale/Upper Pay Scale + TLR 2.1.
Surrey County Council are looking for a Specialist Teacher supporting the delivery of a service aimed at promoting inclusion and equality in education and raising achievement and improving outcomes for children from ethnic/language minority groups and Traveller communities. In this role you will be Working with schools throughout Surrey but particularly in the east of the county.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced primary or secondary Teacher to join and contribute to a well-established, high quality, countywide team of Specialist Teachers.
Surrey's Race Equality and Minority Achievement (REMA) Team has combined expertise in Gypsy/Roma/Traveller (GRT) and English as Additional Language (EAL) work. REMA sits within the Vulnerable Learners Service working in partnership with a range of agencies to ensure the requirements of equalities legislation are met regarding children and young people from minority communities. The team is made up of Specialist Teachers, Bilingual Support Workers (BSWs)/Interpreters and Traveller Education Support Workers (TESWs), led by two area Lead Teachers and a Bilingual Support Coordinator. REMA is managed from within the Vulnerable Learners Service.
REMA supports educational settings to improve outcomes for ethnic minority pupils across all phases. This is achieved by providing training and consultation for school leaders and staff, as well as assessment and direct support for pupils. Bilingual Support Workers assist EAL pupils in class through their first language and interpret at meetings with parents. As well as their work in educational settings, BSWs also interpret and translate for social care services. Traveller Education Support Workers assist all levels of school/setting staff to engage with GRT families and ensure effective transition, induction, and attendance for their children.
You will motivate and enable schools to have high expectations of these groups of pupils. Through your work you will support them to develop their capacity and own expertise around EAL and/or GRT pupils. You will help to ensure that these children and young people are able to have the best educational outcomes possible.

- Experience as a fully qualified teacher working with children or young people from ethnic/language minority and/or Traveller communities in the classroom situation
- The ability to work effectively and collaboratively with others in a team, as well as independently, engaging positively to bring a creative, solution focused approach to all situations
- A real interest and passion in promoting inclusion and equality in education and raising achievement and improving outcomes for children from ethnic/language minority and/or Traveller communities
