Salary Range: £34,680 - £39,000 per annum
The Council are seeking an experienced Scientific Officer to undertake environmental protection work based in the Environmental Health Team.
Reporting to the Senior EHO (Pollution), this post contributes to ensuring the quality of air, land and water are within established guidelines to protect human health and the environment, whilst also contributing to the Council’s corporate Climate Change agenda.
The post holder will be responsible for undertaking the Council’s contaminated land duties under Part IIA of the Environmental Protection Act and responding to planning consultations and pre-applications. This will include technically reviewing and assessing the suitability of investigations, remediation method statements and verification reports to determine risks to human health and the environment. The post holder will be expected to have extensive knowledge of contaminated land in a regulatory context and a detailed technical knowledge of contaminated land in relation to residential and industrial re-developments. Duties may also involve investigation and enforcement functions with regard to other aspects of the Team’s environmental control work, for example air quality, statutory nuisance and pest control and experience in these areas would be desirable.
The successful candidate will ideally be a qualified Environmental Health Officer or Scientific/Contaminated Land Officer, who will have previous local authority experience in contaminated land and pollution control
The successful candidate will need to have a science based honours degree or extensive relevant work experience, with a solid understanding of land contamination and GIS systems.
