We are looking for a experienced industrial relations professional to support and develop the council's industrial relations strategy and partnership working with our Trade Union colleagues. 

Fixed term for: 12 months

About the role

We’re appointing a Trade Union Relations Manager that will work as part of the Human Resources & Organisational Development (HROD) extended leadership team, reporting directly to the Head of Profession, and working closely with the Head of HR (Employee Relations), alongside the Head of HR (Strategy), the Head of HR (OD & Learning), and the Head of Health and Safety. 
As the Trade Union Relations Manager you will lead on:

  • our approach to industrial relations, working with our trade unions, members and leadership teams to embed a culture of partnership working
  • you will have a strong commitment to promoting a strong industrial relations culture based on your previous experience of partnership working and the positive impact this approach can have upon moral, performance and productivity
  • promoting staff engagement and resolving matters at an early stage with our trade unions to ensure an effective trade union relations strategy and partnership is embedded across the council.  

One of our key areas of focus as a department is to support the directorates to proactively understand, engage with and respond effectively to the city’s diverse communities and changing demographic. This role will be critical in improving engagement and partnership working with our Trade Unions so that we can do our best for our city.  

You will enjoy working at a strategic level and will be ambitious for the service. 

You will work alongside the HR Advisory Team and you will focus on the provision of a high quality professional industrial relations advisory service to the organisation. You will work across HR to embed a culture of early informal resolution, fairness, tackling discrimination and ensuring that complex employment matters are dealt with effectively and sensitively.

Additional information

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
