West Berkshire Council serves about a third of the Berkshire County area and benefits from being at the crossroads of the M4 and A34 so is easily accessible. We have a vacancy for a Team Leader post in the West Locality based in Newbury serving the lovely historic market town and surrounding rural communities.
This is an opportunity to be part of the continued development of adult care in West Berkshire responding to the Care Act 2014, building on the strengths of people and their local communities. The Adult Social Care service is committed to preventing, reducing or delaying the need for care and support, and not looking for long term solutions when people are in crisis.
We need flexible and innovative people to take the team forward and lead them on a day to day basis.
As a Team Leader you will be responsible for a small team of Social Workers, Occupational Therapists and Social Care Practitioners, managing their performance and case allocation. The team is adapting to 'hybrid' working and, along with the rest of the service, is facing the challenges this brings in ensuring team cohesion and peer support so your ability to bring new ideas and manage this change will be welcome.
You will also be part of the Locality management team with a shared responsibility for the day to day functioning of the Locality Team, including a busy Duty service that will bring you variety and challenges along with the satisfaction of seeing your team members develop professionally.
We actively seek ways to work with local health colleagues and third sector organisations and West Locality has a strong tradition of regular MDT meetings with some of the local primary health teams.
For this post we require you to have an Occupational Therapy or Social Work qualification, with relevant post-qualifying experience as a manager. You will need experience of working with a number of different agencies and organisations providing services for adults and the ability to develop productive working relationships with them to benefit your team members and the people we work with.
Knowledge of Safeguarding processes and the Health and Social Care legislative framework will enable you to give specialist advice to the team and deputise for the Locality Manager as required.
Whilst having your own regular supervision and weekly Locality Management team meetings, the Principle Social Worker arranges regular meetings for management staff across the service area to offer support and sharing of ideas with peers.
West Berkshire Council offers excellent employment benefits such as flexible working, access to a wide range of relevant training, local government pension scheme, family friendly policies, a range of local discounts and much more. You will also be entitled to a generous annual leave entitlement of 28 days per annum rising to a maximum of 33 days.
Please contact Gabija Knight, Locality Manager on 01635 519019 or Marion Angas, Service Manager on 01635 503384 for an informal chat about this role.
We are looking forward to receiving your completed application form in the next few days.
