37 hours per week permanent post

Monday – Thursday 8.30 – 5.00, Friday 8.30 – 4.30.

If you would like to learn more about joining East Sussex County Council’s Adult’s Learning Disability Assessment, Care Management Team, in a leadership role we would love to hear from you. We have a rare opportunity for you to join us as a Senior Practitioner in our East team, based at Cavendish House, Hastings.

The highly skilled team consists of nine Social workers and three Resource officer’s, one Senior Resource officer, one Practice Manager, Operations Manager and Head of Service and our wonderful administration staff.  We are collocated with our Learning Disability health colleagues which makes for positive joint holistic working. 

We are looking for a motivated and proactive Senior Practitioner who is committed to Strengths Based Practice, ensuring that the service supports adults with learning disabilities to live successfully within the community, helping them maximise their strengths and supporting through the provision of a care management service to both service users and carers.

Right on the frontline of our high performing adult social care service, you’ll be helping to lead an established and skilled team. It’s a challenging role - but there’s no shortage of rewards either – from being part of a cohesive, friendly, and supportive leadership team to making a real difference to the quality of life of the people we work alongside, you will be part of a large Council with many development opportunities.

The purpose of the role will be to undertake the full range of social work responsibilities relevant to this work context and to provide a level of seniority and responsibility for complex work and specialist input.

Key responsibilities for this post include:

  • Responsibility for caseload allocation and to provide casework supervision and consultancy for Social Workers, Resource Officers, and students.
  • To work within a range of legal frameworks and interventions, departmental policies, and procedures to support outcome-based planning for young people and their carers/families.
  • To maintain a high standard of report writing and give evidence in court in relation to private and public proceedings as required.
  • To undertake a lead role in the team to implement agreed local and national service developments, using good evidenced based practice based on current research.
  • Act as the Lead Enquiry Officer for complex Adult Safeguarding Enquiries.
  • Managing change, developing, and supporting excellent practice.

You will need to have recent experience of adult’s social work and a thorough knowledge of relevant legislation relating to adults with disabilities. In return, you’ll find you will have excellent training opportunities in a highly supportive environment. You will receive regular supervision and support from a Practice Manager.

There is likely to be the expectation of working from home in the Covid 19 recovery period. However, you will need to be able to independently travel to cover the catchment area of the team and to fulfil the needs of the role.
