We are looking for two Consultants in Public Health to join the team at West Sussex County Council to provide public health leadership for reducing health inequalities and health protection.
Salary: £85,000 - £89,000 per annum, up to £8,000 relocation package available
Working Pattern: Full time, 37 hours per week, however applications for part-time hours will also be considered
Location: County Hall, Chichester, with flexibility across other bases/remote working

We have an exciting opportunity here at West Sussex within our Public Health team, as we are seeking to appoint two Consultants in Public Health who really want to make a difference in terms of the improvement of the health and wellbeing outcomes of our local people. You will form part of a wider Public Health Consultant team and have generic Public Health Consultant responsibilities agreed with the Director of Public Health, as well as leading on a specialist area; one role to lead on Health Inequalities, and the other on Health Protection.
We are continuing the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and also the emerging workstreams of our Integrated Care System (ICS), Sussex Health and Care Partnership, are creating further opportunities for joined up work across the region, truly embedding public health across the wider health and social care system.
We are looking for candidates who possess strong leadership skills together with a positive attitude who can work flexibly as part of a wider public health team. Whilst not essential, experience of working in a local authority setting, shaping and leading public health initiatives in a political environment is desirable.
Working to our director of public health, you will have responsibility for the development, implementation and delivery of national, regional and local policies, developing inter-agency and interdisciplinary strategic plans and programmes to deliver key public health targets.
You will provide expert public health advice and leadership to support and inform an evidence-based approach for commissioning and developing high quality equitable services, across primary, secondary and social care, and across sectors including voluntary organisations.
As the post holder, you will develop and utilise information and intelligence systems to underpin public health action across disciplines and organisations, leading collation and interpretation of relevant data in addition to dealing with complex public health issues, advising the health and wellbeing board and making recommendations regarding services, patient care and wider determinants of health. These services will be aimed at keeping people well rather than addressing existing problems. They are universal services that work across all ages and population groups but specifically target people with poorer health outcomes.
As a member of the Public Health Directorate Leadership Team you will contribute to the development and operation of the Council's strategic direction and support training programmes for Foundation Year Doctors/Specialty Registrars in Public Health, and to the training of practitioners and primary care professionals within the locality.
You will be included on the United Kingdom Public Health Register/General Medical Council (UKPHR/GMC) professional registers.
