SALARY: £37,343 - £42,006 per annum
Set on the north coast of Kent, the Borough of Swale’s 140 square miles take in the towns of Faversham, Sittingbourne and Sheerness, an extensive rural hinterland which includes the whole of the Isle of Sheppey, plus part of the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. To support delivery of this plan Swale Borough Council is looking for a driven and ambitious Economic Development Officer, initially for 6 months.
The immediate focus will be on the economic recovery of the Borough, through a series of short and medium-term measures to support businesses and our town centres, as well as managing existing projects. You will be at the heart of a small, dedicated team focused on what is a significant priority for the Council. As such candidates will ideally have experience of working in economic development, a good understanding of the role local government plays in contributing to local economic prosperity and be used to the complexities of managing multiple projects and services at any one time.
There will be a need to work with a wide range of partner organisations, local business and communities to deliver against our priorities, so you will need to be an excellent communicator, with the ability to engage with a wide range of people, both in person and through various media. Effective negotiation skills will also be key, as will the ability to drive projects and proposals forward, sometimes to tight deadlines.
The Council considers that all roles should be able to communicate clearly and concisely.
This is a full-time position on a fixed term contract for 6 months.
