East Devon is independently recognised as an outstanding place and so it follows that its council must also strive to be outstanding – that’s why we’re proud to have achieved Platinum IiP. Everything we do is aimed at ensuring that East Devon is a place that people want to live in, work in, visit and enjoy. Our ambition is to be an outstanding council which works together with local people to create great value services and an outstanding community, economy and environment for East Devon, now and for future generations.
About the role
Supporting the wider Revenues team you will need to use all available communication channels to ensure the efficient and accurate collection of Council revenue. This includes ensuring our customer information is accurate and up to date, setting up payment arrangements, applying the correct reliefs and exemptions and employing recovery methods, all whilst dealing proactively and sensitively with debtors to influence prompt repayment. There is also an element of general office administration and production of data for analysis.
You must have GCSEs in Maths and English at grade C/5 or above (or equivalent qualifications / experience) and a proven track record of working in a customer facing role. With excellent written and verbal communication skills you will also have a methodical approach to be able to process high volumes of work accurately and efficiently. Proficient in the use of customer relationship management software and Microsoft office packages as well as able to build rapport with and listen to customers, you will be able to simultaneously update systems whilst dealing with the customer. Ideally, you will also have a good knowledge of Council Tax legislation and experience of debt recovery.
