East Devon is independently recognised as an outstanding place and so it follows that its council must also strive to be outstanding. Everything we do is aimed at ensuring that East Devon is a place that people want to live in, work in, visit and enjoy. Our ambition is to be an outstanding council which works together with local people to create great value services and an outstanding community, economy and environment for East Devon, now and for future generations.
About the role
Due to the retirement of the existing post holder, an exciting opportunity has arisen to work within a beautiful part of the South West managing the Council’s Tree Team and providing high level guidance for how the Council handles all its statutory responsibilities for trees and ensuring compliance with legislation. The role will also be playing a critical role in helping to deliver our Climate Change Strategy and working with colleagues across the organisation to meet our carbon zero target of 2040. The role will also work closely with our District Ecologist and Landscape Officer to ensure that East Devon looks after its outstanding natural environment. You will also provide advice and guidance to other Council services and Elected Members on arboricultural matters.
Our trees are a distinctive part of our landscape and highly valued so we are looking for someone who has developed extensive experience and a sound knowledge of tree species and characteristics alongside developing tree policy and strategy work. We want someone who can show leadership qualities, build effective relationships and will inspire our growing tree team. You must hold a recognised qualification in arboriculture and have practical experience in tree inspection and management. You must hold a valid driving licence (reasonable adjustments may be possible according to the Equality Act), as the role involves attending site inspections throughout the district.
