We are looking for an enthusiastic person who is looking to learn and willing to be part of a Parks and Countryside team that undertakes a full range of grounds maintenance operations, activities and associated tasks in parks and countryside, cemeteries, and all associated sites

£16,394.00

Working week

Monday, Tuesday between 07.00 - 16.15. Wednesday, Thursday between 07.00 - 16.00 and Friday between 07.00 - 12.30. Hours will change slightly during winter months.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Learn and assist in carrying out maintenance duties within Wirral’s parks, coast, open spaces, and cemeteries
  • Work alongside ‘Friends of Parks’ and community groups on joint projects and to work and be involved with other key partners delivering a range of public and community-based initiatives
  • Learn and assist with the Council’s Health and Safety Policy and to take such steps as are reasonably practicable for health and safety
  • Develop and learn skills of a wide range of Horticultural disciplines including parks, cemeteries, arboriculture, sports, and artificial surfaces
  • Communicate with a wide range of people including colleagues, members of the public, volunteers, and Friends Groups
  • Undertake regular rotations through various sectors of the Parks & Countryside Department
  • Develop your skills, confidence, and knowledge to help you to find employment within the Parks & Countryside Department once training has finished

Desired qualifications

Desired qualifications for a Level 2 apprenticeship:

  • GCSEs at grades E/2 or above (or equivalent) in maths and English

Future prospects

The person under-taking the apprenticeship may a permanent position within Wirral’s Parks and Countryside Department (Subject to passing the apprenticeship course and fulfilling/meeting all the criteria.

Things to consider

A willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Ability to travel throughout the Borough using private or public transport.

Ability to work flexible hours, with occasional evening, weekend, and bank holiday work.

Off-the-job training must make up at least 20% of the apprentice’s contracted hours, over the total duration of the apprentice’s planned training period.

REASEHEATH COLLEGE

Applications for this apprenticeship are being processed by Reaseheath College

Level 2 Horticulture and Landscape Operative apprenticeship standard, which includes:

  • Level 1/2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)
  • End-Point Assessment (EPA)

Reaseheath Training will be the apprenticeship training provider for this Apprenticeship.  The employer will give guidance and support throughout and a mentor will be assigned to you.

Off-the-job training must make up at least 20% of the apprentice’s contracted hours, over the total duration of the apprentice’s planned training period. Reaseheath Training also offer optional extra industry qualifications at additional cost.
