About The Job

Salary: £32,910 - £35,745 per annum
Working Pattern: Full time, 37 hours per week
Location: Bognor Regis Fire Station

The successful person will be responsible for carrying out complex Fire Safety audits and inspections to assess compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and other relevant legislation.

You will issue enforcement notices and compile legal action files for investigations to give evidence in court. You will work with businesses and other organisations to support them, organising risk reduction seminars and local engagement with partners.

As a Senior Fire Safety Inspecting Officer you will coach and mentor Fire Safety staff to maintain competency in line with NFCC Competency Framework. You will work on department projects facilitating national programs such as fire safety order amendments, Grenfell outcomes.

The work will sometimes involve exposure to people or subject matter which occasionally places emotional or environmental demands on the job holder.

Experience and Skills

Key Skills:

  1. You will have developed, excellent verbal and written skills to communicate with a variety of audiences across all age groups, abilities, backgrounds and professional disciplines.
  2. You will have the ability to build and maintain ongoing relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders to work within the regulators code and the Fire Safety Order.
  3. You will have effective interpersonal skills to inform and influence members of the business community/responsible persons regarding Fire Safety Legislation.
  4. You will be able to influence persons with control over premises to change, adapt or alter their premises to ensure they are safe from fire.
  5. You will have the ability to manage risk and apply it to Fire Safety legislation.
  6. You will have the ability to analyse information to formulate and implement Fire Safety solutions in a variety of premises.
  7. You will have the ability to organise, plan and prioritise your own work to meet deadlines and targets with minimal supervision, and attention to detail.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety (or equivalent).
  • A full UK driving licence.

Desirable

  • National Examination Board of Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) qualification.
  • L5 Diploma or working towards.
  • Graduate of the Institute of Fire Engineers.
  • Legal Qualifications to support legal actions (APCIL).
  • Presenting evidence at formal proceedings.

Experience:

Essential

  • Experience with working with plans in relation to standards and regulations.
  • Experience of working with Hospital Technical Memorandum Codes l
  • Experience of Primary Authority Schemes (PAS) or Experience of working with safety advisory groups (SAG's) or Experience of working within the enforcement framework.
  • Experience of coaching and mentoring staff and co-ordinating activities to meet objectives.
  • Experience of leading formal fire safety inspections, audits and investigations including complex high-risk premises or Leading formal enforcement action.
  • Experience of partnership working with other regulators.
  • Experience of undertaking noncomplex building consultations with building control bodies.

Desirable

  • Previous experience of representing an organisation at regional and local levels.
