We are pleased to offer an opportunity to join the Community Protection Team. This exciting opportunity will allow the successful applicant to join a team of highly skilled investigative officers who respond to a range of community issues. This includes community safety, anti-social behaviour & nuisance, public health, animal welfare and pest control.
As a Community Protection Officer you will share the Council’s vision in maintaining Maidstone as a safe place to live, work and visit, utilising relevant experience of an investigatory role. You will lead projects and initiatives with enthusiasm and passion and respond to variety of issues, demonstrating excellent problem-solving skills. Using your knowledge and experience of relevant enforcement powers and working in a multi-agency setting to tackle a range of challenging problems, you will be self-motivated with excellent communication skills and recognise the importance of delivering high standards of customer service. As a member of the Community Protection Team you will be able to work under pressure and prioritise effectively to manage the conflicting demands that will be placed on you and the rest of the team.
The successful applicant will have a passion for and experience of tackling anti-social behaviour having delivered initiatives that challenge and deter the cause of ASB, including working with partner agencies to tackle issues including noise and other nuisances and pest issues. You must have a full driving license and access to your own vehicle.
You will be familiar with current legislation relating to nuisance, public health, animal welfare and community safety and have experience of utilising the tools and powers available. With excellent written and verbal communication skills, you will be confident in your report writing skills and your ability to represent the service in a positive and professional manner.
This role is customer-facing, the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is an essential element of the role.

The Council considers that the successful applicant will have access to young people and/or vulnerable adults and it is a requirement under The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 that you hold an enhanced disclosure and barring scheme check. Upon successful appointment, you will be required to provide evidence of an enhanced DBS check if you subscribe to the DBS Update Service or complete the process to obtain a DBS check.
This is a full-time position offered on a 12 month fixed term contract.
