East Devon is independently recognised as an outstanding place and so it follows that its council must also strive to be outstanding – that’s why we’re proud to have achieved Platinum IiP. Everything we do is aimed at ensuring that East Devon is a place that people want to live in, work in, visit and enjoy. Our ambition is to be an outstanding council which works together with local people to create great value services and an outstanding community, economy and environment for East Devon, now and for future generations.
About the role
We are seeking a Wildlife Officer to co-ordinate and facilitate the planning, design and delivery of wildlife events, projects, initiatives and activities that will deliver the AONB’s Colchester Declaration commitments, enhancing the conservation and awareness of key species and connecting people with nature.
You will work with local communities, partners, farmers, land managers and others to secure and deliver habitat enhancement and species action across the AONB, whilst also securing additional funding and commissioning and supervising contracts. In addition, you will work closely with the AONB Project Officer and wider team in the delivery, communication and PR for your work. Based at Kennaway House, Sidmouth, with flexibility for home working, the role will include travel for site-based activity, events and meetings.
You will have an appreciation and good understanding of the countryside and the role and purpose of AONBs. You will be a very well organised, efficient, effective and resourceful team player, with a strong background in nature conservation. You’ll need to be qualified to at least NVQ level 5 or equivalent in a related subject or have equivalent experience. You will also be experienced in working with a variety of partners, including volunteers. Your background will include organising and delivering a range of nature-based events and the ability to work unsupervised.
With the enthusiasm, confidence and ability to work with a wide range of partners including local authorities, government agencies, community groups, partner organisations, farmers and landowners, you will be flexible to deal with dynamic situations and enjoy working in a small but highly committed team.
