These are exciting times in Planning Policy at Tunbridge Wells Borough Council: we are currently, preparing for submission of our Local Plan in summer 2021 and Examination in autumn/winter.  The Pre-Submission Local Plan sets out where development is proposed to be located for the period up until 2038, and is of key importance to residents, businesses, settlements and the rural areas of the borough.

We are seeking to recruit a GIS, Monitoring and Research Officer to join the hard working and positive Planning Policy team and to play an important role in the forthcoming stages of the Local Plan and the future Royal Tunbridge Wells Town Centre Area Plan. The postholder will be the GIS lead for the department, and the role will involve GIS data capture using ESRI; GIS analysis - being able to query spatial and non-spatial data; application of best GIS practice to the collation, analysis and creation of spatial and address related data; processing address spreadsheets (Excel) so that they can be displayed within GIS and creating maps for the policy team to support policies. It is expected that GIS will play a hugely important function in the planning system following the forthcoming introduction of the Government’s changes to the national planning system, and this post will be important in informing how GIS is used in the future.  The postholder will also undertake research to inform planning policy formation, monitor the effectiveness of planning policies and the rate of development across the Borough.

We are interested in hearing from positive, energetic and conscientious candidates with knowledge and experience of GIS and other ICT systems, who are well organised and are able to work on their own initiative and as part of a team.  There is a requirement to have the ability to undertake site visits including in rural areas.

TWBC Planning Services operates with a culture of supporting staff as they develop, providing opportunities to broaden and deepen their experience and skills, and to progress their careers within the Service.

Additional benefits for this post include 22 days annual leave (increasing to 27 days after 5 years continuous Local Government service), membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme, as well as invaluable training opportunities for continuing professional development.
