Community Communications Officer (37hrs/ week)

12 Month Fixed Term Contract

Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) is passionate about providing high quality services to our communities, residents and businesses and this means we need to employ and retain the most talented and dedicated people. Situated within the heart of the Cambridge-Peterborough Growth Area, Huntingdonshire is a beautiful district that boasts thriving market towns and many attractive villages, each with its own identity. We are an innovative and forward-thinking Local Authority whose residents are at the heart of our decision making.

We are seeking a creative individual to join the new Resident Advice Team to promote the service and encourage residents to engage and ultimately help them achieve better outcomes. This is an exciting new role with the opportunity to shape a communication programme that will make a positive difference to those living in Huntingdonshire. If you are enthusiastic and passionate with a positive approach to problem solving and the ability to motivate others, then this could be the opportunity for you.

Learning from our experience throughout the pandemic, we recognise that many residents do not historically see the District Council as an organisation that can help. We want to change that perception and this role will involve the successful candidate developing and delivering a communication and engagement plan that utilises a variety of media tools and platforms and has the potential to reach every resident in the District. You will be able to work under limited supervision and as part of a team and will have excellent presentation and communication skills that enables you to engage a wide range of audiences.

Known for your ability to work to deadlines, you will have experience of designing and delivering communication plans or media campaigns within either a business or community/ voluntary setting. You will be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of the approaches and methods of communication that will appeal to, and maximise the engagement of residents in this new initiative.

This role would suit an individual who has experience of working in a communications role or who has acted as the communications champion for a charity, community or voluntary group and can demonstrate affective use of a variety of different media tools as part of an educational, change or transformation programme.

The postholder will be required to hold a DBS.

We want to employ staff who embody our icare values (Inspiring, Collaborative, Accountable, Respectful, Enterprising) all of which support our ultimate purpose of putting our customers first.

We are currently working fully remotely for the foreseeable future when we anticipate returning to the office on a flexible basis which will still include work from home and flexi time opportunities but candidates should be within commutable distance of our offices in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire or able to attend meetings as required if further afield.

At HDC we seek to employ candidates from a range of backgrounds in order to bring diversity of thought and make our organisation more innovative. We are seeking candidates who are looking for their next fixed term opportunity on a part time or condensed hours basis. We will consider any flexible arrangements and are a supportive employer enabling our staff to work in an environment that produces high standards of work in an employee led environment.
