At Bradford MBC our Children's Services is on an improvement journey and we are currently looking for highly experienced and dedicated Level 3 Social Workers to join our Duty and Assessment teams for Bradford South.

About us

We now have a strong senior leadership team with a clear vision who are driving positive change to ensure that the children of the Bradford district receive a high quality service.  At the request of our Social Workers and to support us in our quest to improve we have redesigned how we deliver our Children’s Social Care Services and have established new Duty and Assessment teams, Child and Family teams and Children in Care teams. Our teams are headed by a Team Manager and supported by a dedicated none case holding Practice Supervisor and Court Consultant.

We understand that Social Work is not easy and that the challenges you face daily are difficult and emotional which is why we guarantee to ensure caseloads remain manageable in both number and complexity. In the South we operate an open door policy and we are committed to providing monthly Reflective supervision as well as fortnightly group sessions.  Your emotional health is extremely important to us which is why you will have access to a range of wellbeing support groups.  As part of our commitment to your general wellbeing we will ensure a good work life balance and work from home options.

Your ongoing training and career development is as important to us as it is to you.  To support you in your work we are dedicated to ensuring you receive the training you require and have developed and continue to develop a significant training offer.  The opportunities within Bradford to progress for example from Level 3 Social Worker to Practice Supervisor are excellent and we will do everything we can to support you in your efforts to do so.

Councillor Sue Duffy, portfolio holder for children and families, said: “Ofsted are very clear in their assessment about how positive social workers are about working in the district and that the new training they receive is already producing better assessments.”

Joining an authority which is on an improvement plan may seem a daunting prospect however we are committed to making a positive change not only for our service users but also for our social work teams.

About the role

As a Level 3 Social Worker within this service, you will complete Family Assessments and work with the child and family to agree a plan.  Our fast paced Duty and Assessment teams will work on a one week on, two weeks off rota system and receive allocations directly from our Integrated Front Door.

The transition points from this service are:

1.    Closure

2.    Step down to Early Help Services

3   Step to Child and Family Service and the Children in care Team

The Bradford South team is based at Sir Henry Mitchell House, just a short walk away from the buzz of our multi-cultural city, which showcases wonderful architecture, an array of fantastic eateries and independent shops.

The district

Bradford is a city which offers a richness of culture and diversity; it is the fourth largest Metropolitan District in the country and home to a population of 534,300 residents. Bradford has the largest percentage of population under the age of 16 outside London; over 30% of the population is under the age of 20.  With these statistics in mind you will develop your understanding of different cultures and learn how being culturally competent can enhance your relationships with children and their families and ultimately produce more positive outcomes.  A Social Worker who is multilingual could see joining Bradford as a way to enhance their translation skills and in turn develop long lasting and trusting relationships with the families they support.

Bradford and its surrounding areas has a great deal to offer.  Housing is affordable and there are many desirable residential neighbourhoods within a reasonable commute of the city.  As you would expect from any city, rail links are excellent, frequent and fast. Leeds is 20 minutes away, whilst Manchester is an hour.  Bradford is on the Airedale Line which connects the city with the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Saltaire and the lovely market town of Skipton which is also the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales.  Motorway links are good and convenient with the M606 being just 2 miles drive from our offices.

How to apply

If you have the relevant qualification, experience and drive to join Bradford and make a difference at this key time, we would love to hear from you.   Please feel free to contact Rebecca Allinson on 07855 177065 or alternatively email your CV to rebecca.allinson@bradford.gov.uk
