Working as part of a team, you will be the first point of contact for residents and members of the public submitting homeless applications and contacting the Homeless Service within the busy Housing Advice Service. Duties of the role include triaging all homeless applications as well as maintaining a case load of single homeless clients, which will be assessed as required by the Homelessness reduction Act 2017 and Part VII of the Housing Act 1996.
You will enjoy working with people as the role entails liaison and relationship building with single homeless people to assist them in finding accommodation with the Council’s key providers.
In addition, you will be the public face of the service, so you will need to be genuinely committed to helping people facing difficulties in their lives with achieving sustainable outcomes. The role requires the ability to communicate clearly with clients and should be able to work on their own initiative, albeit with support and supervision. The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in fluent English is essential for this role. It is a busy working environment so the ability to work effectively under pressure and as part of a team is essential. The role also involves casework and therefore good written and interviewing skills are required.
This role requires a Standard Disclosure and Barring Check.
Experience working with vulnerable people would be an advantage, although enthusiasm and commitment are as important. An understanding of homelessness laws will be helpful, but full training will be given to the right candidate. A full driving license is essential.
