At Bradford MBC our Children's Services is on an improvement journey and we are currently looking for highly experienced and dedicated Level 3 Social Workers to join our Child and Family teams for Keighley and Shipley.
We now have a strong senior leadership team with a clear vision who are driving positive change to ensure that the children of the Bradford district receive a high quality service. At the request of our Social Workers and to support us in our quest to improve we have redesigned how we deliver our Children’s Social Care Services and have established new Duty and Assessment teams, Child and Family teams and Children in Care teams. Our teams are headed by a Team Manager and supported by a dedicated none case holding Practice Supervisor and Court Consultant.
We understand that Social Work is not easy and that the challenges you face daily are difficult and emotional which is why we guarantee to ensure caseloads remain manageable in both number and complexity. In Keighley and Shipley we operate an open door policy and we are committed to providing monthly Reflective supervision as well as fortnightly group sessions. Your emotional health is extremely important to us which is why you will have access to a range of wellbeing support groups. As part of our commitment to your general wellbeing we will ensure a good work life balance and work from home options.
Your ongoing training and career development is as important to us as it is to you. To support you in your work we are dedicated to ensuring you receive the training you require and have developed and continue to develop a significant training offer. The opportunities within Bradford to progress for example from Level 3 Social Worker to Practice Supervisor are excellent and we will do everything we can to support you in your efforts to do so.
Councillor Sue Duffy, portfolio holder for children and families, said: “Ofsted are very clear in their assessment about how positive social workers are about working in the district and that the new training they receive is already producing better assessments.”
Joining an authority which is on an improvement plan may seem a daunting prospect however we are committed to making a positive change not only for our service users but also for our social work teams.
About the role
As a Level 3 Social Worker in this service, you will play a key role in managing long term child in need, child protection and care proceedings cases. The caseload will include varying degrees of court work.
The transition points from this service are:
2. Step down to Early Help Services
3. Step up to Children in Care Services
Based at Keighley Town Hall, teams based here cover a very diverse geographical area from urban towns to rural villages. As well as working with families within the urban towns you could find yourself visiting families in the World Heritage Site of Saltaire, or you may be supporting a sibling group in the beautiful historic village of Haworth made famous by the Bronte Sisters. We also work with families in the contemporary Spa Town of Ilkley.
Bradford is a city which offers a richness of culture and diversity; it is the fourth largest Metropolitan District in the country and home to a population of 534,300 residents. Bradford has the largest percentage of population under the age of 16 outside London; over 30% of the population is under the age of 20. With these statistics in mind you will develop your understanding of different cultures and learn how being culturally competent can enhance your relationships with children and their families and ultimately produce more positive outcomes. A Social Worker who is multilingual could see joining Bradford as a way to enhance their translation skills and in turn develop long lasting and trusting relationships with the families they support.
Keighley and the surrounding areas offer good schools, affordable housing, excellent transport links to the cities of Bradford and Leeds, and is only a short drive away from the bustling market town of Skipton which is also the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales.
