About the role

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Orbis IT & Digital team based at East Sussex County Council, working to achieve a Level 3 Learning & Development Practitioner Apprenticeship.

The Service Transition team is responsible for sourcing and delivering learning opportunities for IT & Digital staff members across the Orbis partner authorities of  East Sussex, Brighton and Surrey, corporate customers in East Sussex and our traded customers (such as Schools), in Brighton & Hove and East Sussex and beyond.

We are looking for someone who is competent with technology and confident with people to benefit from an all-round grounding in being a Learning & Development professional, including learning all that is needed to become a confident and competent trainer in a technology environment. You will be given the chance to work across a broad range of IT Learning & Development services and to become expert in some of the key technologies and software packages used by our customers. You will also become proficient in the planning and orchestration of successful learning events.

Job Introduction

Apprentices will gain the skills and knowledge to be able to support IT & Digital’s Learning & Development function in its delivery of improved performance in the workplace at an individual, team and organisation level. The role holder will become proficient in: 

  • Identifying/collating and analysing learning needs;
  • Establishing team and individual learning gaps;
  • Researching, identifying/sourcing and arranging training events and learning solutions;
  • Designing, delivering and evaluating training or learning; writing supporting documentation and content;
  • Supporting the work of the relevant Project Teams or 'business as usual';
  • Working with stakeholders and managers across the business to realise and evidence required outcomes;
  • Maintaining accurate records (eg financial/L&D requests and attendance/feedback) and analysing and reporting on a range of performance indicators.

The apprenticeship at level 3 will be run by an accredited partner, who are responsible for supporting you with your learning and carrying out assessments. The course has core skills, knowledge and behaviours to complete and your work experience and assigned tasks will be linked to the skills, knowledge and behaviours you will learn about in your course.

The course delivery format is to be confirmed but is likely to use a blend of face to face workshops and online learning. You will also have time for self-paced study.  In the workplace you will receive additional support from a nominated professional mentor, throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship, as well as a pastoral mentor who will help you settle in and get used to what is expected from you.

Apprentices without certificated evidence of level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to completing training and you may be required to take an English and Maths assessment prior to a formal offer being made.  Please note that immediately following a provisional offer of employment the provider may carry out their own short interview to confirm suitability.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.

Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.

Due to the restrictions we cannot guarantee that individuals that meet the requirements of the Points-based Immigration System will be issued with clearance to obtain work permits.
