The Public Realm team are responsible for driving up recycling, preventing waste and helping improve the cleanliness of Newham’s streets and the delivery of excellent parks and green spaces. This is an exciting time to join our team, to assist with the development of services to drive performance across the portfolio in the bid to tackle the climate emergency.

About the job

We are looking to appoint a Principal Environmental Improvement Officer to join our team. You will lead and deliver a range of projects within the Public Realm Service delivered by yourself and other team members utilising established project management and programme governance processes. You will also support the Public Realm Leadership Team in creating the strategy and policy needed to deliver our ambitious plans over the coming few years. The role will support the strategic development of the Boroughs green infrastructure, with specific focus on improvements to our Parks and Green Spaces, nature recovery and wider greening initiatives.

About you

You’ll have comprehensive knowledge, experience and commitment to sustainable environmental management and have a strong understanding of the value of green infrastructure. You’ll have experience initiating and managing projects to successful completion. Ideally, you will also have experience in supporting the development of strategies and policies to bring about service improvements.
