An exciting opportunity has become available to join the dedicated  and active Trading Standards Team as a Senior Trading Standards Officer. As a senior officer, you will supervise a small multidisciplinary team of officers in conducting their work, whilst maintaining potentially complex enquiries of your own. You will be a fully qualified officer with detailed knowledge in trading standards law. However, it is essential that you are able to lead and develop inexperienced officers as the team currently has eight trainees. This role could suit someone who is keen to expand their experience and develop in a supportive team that carries out the full range of enforcement responsibilities.

The Trading Standards Team uses a wide range of consumer protection legislation, to make sure goods and services sold and provided within the county are safe and legal. We cover a diverse range of areas such as product safety, animal health and welfare, illicit markets, food standards and counterfeit goods.

We take action to eliminate rogue trading and protect vulnerable consumers, as well as offering support and guidance to new and established businesses to help them grow. We also vet and approve local traders through our partnerships with Buy With Confidence, and work closely with organisations like Environmental Health, Sussex Police and HMRC to provide consumers and businesses with the confidence they need to conduct business safely and legally in the county.

The services delivered by the Communities, Economy and Transport department (CET) have an enormous impact on the lives of local people and the natural environment. From operating waste facilities and registration offices, to maintaining roads and major infrastructure planning, the moment an East Sussex resident steps outside their front door, they are interacting with our work. Therefore, roles in our department offer enormous scope to make a positive impact on the quality of life for people and the environment of East Sussex. We are looking for people who can help us to improve the links between the areas we operate in, such as using libraries, improving adult literacy, transporting vulnerable people to the shops to help keep them independent or installing high speed broadband to support businesses to modernise.
