INTERNAL AUDIT ASSISTANT
Salary – Scale 5/6 (from £22,183 per annum)

An opportunity has arisen within the Internal Audit Department, working for Barrow Borough Council, for an Internal Audit Assistant. The post is offered on a full time basis of 37 hours per week, part-time working will be considered.
The successful candidate will assist the team in providing an effective Internal Audit service to the Council, by evaluating the adequacy of internal control/governance arrangements, risk management, and use of resources; and making recommendations for improvement where necessary. The Department also undertakes a large volume of housing benefit related testing, which involves both determinations and payments.
You will need to be self-motivated, have a high attention to detail and possess sound analytical and IT skills.
You should have five GCSE’s or equivalent. It would be an advantage to have knowledge of auditing principles and practices.
The main duties of the post include undertaking audit fieldwork, the preparation of audit files and working papers, and assisting with audit investigations and the production of formal written reports. It will be beneficial for applicants to have experience of working within at least one of:
- Internal Audit
- Revenues and Benefits
- Public Sector
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written are an essential requirement; you must also have the ability to organise and prioritise your workload.
The ability to converse with ease with customers and provide information and advice, in accurate spoken English is an essential requirement.
The successful candidate will be automatically enrolled in the Local Government Pension Scheme and will be required to obtain a Basic Disclosure.
