Are you a returning graduate, or are you graduating this summer?   We are looking for local talent to support our unique Island.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it…

We are recruiting agents of intelligence, to join us at the Isle of Wight Council as Graduate Trainees on a 2 year mission to provide business management support, across a variety of departments and services, supporting our Assistant Chief Executive to achieve the goals of our Local Authority.

If successful, you’ll use your innovation and creativity to identify, analyse and interpret intelligence from a range of sources, solving complex people / community problems and developing well informed solutions offering best value for money.

The challenge:

  • To undertake special assignments, projects and research.
  • Gathering intelligence, preparing reports, identifying options and making recommendations.
  • To bring people together to achieve the benefits of change
  • Compiling and producing management reports, presentations and information packs.
  • Conducting analysis and presenting findings to support strategy, policy and programme development.
  • Undertaking investigative work including consultation with members, senior officers and other stakeholders.

As our Graduate Trainee you’ll understand the needs of our local community, you’ll be able to keep up with current local government policy context and you’ll appreciate the leadership role that local government has through local democracy.

As a graduate working at the Isle of Wight Council, there are many things that have surprised me. In the lead up to accepting the role, I was told many things about working in government and the public sector – but the benefits of this mostly revolved around pensions and job stability. What I have found, is a dynamic workplace that allows its employees autonomy and opportunity. I can verifiably testify that I have already grown as a professional individual due to this role – continuously adding new strings to my bow and polishing my arsenal.” Aaron Wheeldon, Graduate Trainee, Isle of Wight Council.

Should you be successful in your mission, we are offering a fantastic rewards and benefits package teamed with a Grade 8 starting salary of £24,319 p/a plus ongoing training and professional development. Our employee package includes:

  • A generous annual leave entitlement of 31 days per annum, plus public holidays
  • Local Government pension scheme
  • Staff discounts & benefits for local and national schemes
  • Island bus network and Solent ferry travel discounts
  • Staff parking permit scheme
  • A range of discounts from over 100 local island businesses
  • Discounted island sports & leisure gym membership
  • Access to private health care packages
  • Cycle to work scheme

We would also support you, in year 2, to undertake a higher-level apprenticeship programme at postgraduate level.

To apply, simply download our application pack, or for an informal discussion please contact Debbie Downer, Strategic Manager of Organisational Intelligence: 01983 821000 ext 6555 or via email debbie.downer@iow.gov.uk

Good luck with your mission!

This tape / disc will self-destruct in ten seconds (well, it might not, but it really ruins the theme without this bit, go with it)
