Are you motivated and able to supervise a team, provide excellent customer service, and work well with volunteers, colleagues and partners? Do you embrace change and have a calm can-do attitude?
We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive supervisor with excellent time management skills who can manage a team effectively, support and develop team members, and who enjoys working with people of all ages from the local community. The postholder will play an important part in North Somerset Libraries’ recovery from the Covid crisis.
You will work in a team with the existing part-time Community Services Supervisor to offer consistent support to both Clevedon and Yatton libraries throughout the week, so good communication and team working skills are essential. You will lead on the day to day management of Clevedon Library, where you will lead a team of Community Services Officers and volunteers in the library operating 3.5 days a week. You will be responsible for managing staff performance and timetabling, as well as overseeing the operation and safety of the library building. Confidence and proficiency in the use of ICT is expected to support colleagues and customers.
Libraries offer a range of services and activities for all ages including holiday activities, regular Rhymetimes, Lego Club and digital support sessions, as well as hosting literary and community events. You will help to restore these activities, and adapt to different ways of working using our experience of the pandemic. You will work with external partners to organise events compliant with Health and Safety guidelines.
We are looking for someone with a keen interest in library services who can enable the library’s contribution to health and wellbeing, education, culture, and support for employment and skills.
You will have supervisory and customer service experience: library experience, although desirable, is not essential. You will be able to use your initiative and work effectively within the team.
The post-holder’s main base will be at Clevedon Library in Clevedon with some work at the shared Yatton Library and Children’s Centre building in Yatton. The post-holder will be required to work at other libraries across the district and visit a variety of venues. The post is for 16 hours a week, usually worked Monday, Tuesday and alternate Saturdays.
This post is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
