Teaching Assistant – Willingdon Community School Hearing Support Facility, ISEND Sensory Needs Service
Hours of work: 32.5 hours per week, term-time only (pro rata salary for the hours worked equates to approximately £14,773 per annum).
An exciting and rewarding opportunity has arisen for a Teaching Assistant to join the ISEND Sensory Needs Service, supporting children with hearing loss, in facilities within one of our mainstream schools.
Primarily what is required are strong teaching assistant skills. Whilst experience of working with children with a hearing impairment and/or special needs would be welcomed, this is not essential as on-going training and support will be given. The current cohort are predominately oral communicators.
Although your base will be the Hearing Support Facility (HSF) at Willingdon Community School you may, on occasion, be requested to cover at any of the other HSFs at Manor Primary School, Uckfield; Willingdon Primary and Priory School, Lewes.
The post holder will be managed by the senior teacher in the facility and will assist in the support and inclusion of pupils who are hearing impaired in mainstream lessons, within a busy school environment and where appropriate in individual and small group sessions.
This post would suit candidates considering a future career in teaching, and in particular a role as a Teacher of the Deaf.
You will enjoy working in a small friendly and supportive team within a busy, successful mainstream school.
