About the Role

We are recruiting for two Procurement Specialists to join our Strategic Procurement Team. We’re looking for enthusiastic, motivated and energetic people who want to start a career in Procurement and make a contribution to East Sussex County Councils services.

You may not have any experience in public sector procurement but want to develop new skills or build on previous experience in a fantastic, friendly and supportive team. If this sounds like you then we would love to hear from you.

Procurement in East Sussex is about ensuring the Council provides the right services to the communities we serve through our supply chain. It includes sourcing contracts for highways maintenance, providing social care services, and building new schools and much more besides. Procurement also contributes to East Sussex’s response to the Climate Emergency and the social benefits our supply chain brings to the community as it recovers from the COVID pandemic.

The successful candidate will be undertaking competitive procurement of projects, supporting other members of the team on procurements, awarding contracts and liaising with customers and stakeholders on a daily basis, so good customer service and communication skills are important. You will be focussing on value for money, sustainability and social value through our procurement activity.

We are looking for people who:

  • Are committed to delivering great customer service.
  • Are enthusiastic, show initiative and want to develop a career in Procurement.
  • Are able to plan and organise their work effectively.
  • Work collaboratively in a team and with customers.
  • Want to contribute to providing high-quality public services across East Sussex.
  • Previous experience in procurement (either public or private sector) is not necessary.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop a professional procurement career in a team that is part of the Orbis Shared Services partnership and provides a great working environment where you are supported and given opportunities to develop.

Orbis is a shared services partnership between East Sussex County Council, Surrey County Council and Brighton and Hove City Council. You will have the opportunity to work with colleagues and customers across all three Orbis Partner Councils however these roles are based out of East Sussex County Council.
