About the role
Are you a great communicator with a passion for customer service, quality web content and helping residents get the very best advice and guidance? If so, we want to hear from you!
We are recruiting 1 x Web & Information Officer to join our busy Customer Relations Team based at County Hall, Lewes but working from home to start. The core responsibilities of this role are providing a helpful telephone service to our customers as well as supporting the department to improve our web content.
This role is ideally suited to applicants who have experience copy writing and editing as well as those with experience dealing with the public, sometimes in difficult or stressful situations. An example day is set out below as well as detailed job description setting out the core duties and qualifications for the role.
A day-in-the-life of a Web & Information Officer
Your day will start with some database work ensuring our Ofsted childcare records are up to date and correctly imported into our main system. At 10am you will log-on to our phone system and handle queries on our Family Information Service helpline. These queries will cover a wide range of issues from helping parents find childcare, to dealing with complaints from people who maybe cannot use our online service.
In the afternoon you may be assigned some outdated web content to update. You will ensure that the links work and the language is clear and easy to understand, jargon-free and written for the right audience. On your task list for tomorrow will be speaking to a busy manager in one of our social care teams to help her edit a complicated guidance note from the regulator into easy to understand web content aimed at parents.
Our core hours match our phone service opening hours (10am to 3pm) but as you have built up some hours of flexi-time you choose to leave early at 4pm. Tomorrow is Tuesday, when we hold our weekly team huddle, you have been working on some stats showing the types of queries taken over the phone vs online and have prepared a short presentation to share these insights with the team.
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
Due to the restrictions we cannot guarantee that individuals that meet the requirements of the Points-based Immigration System will be issued with clearance to obtain work permits.
East Sussex County Council is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from all suitable candidates, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age. All applications are treated on merit.
