We have a vacancy within the Lifeline service for an enthusiastic hard-working individual with a good telephone manner to work at the Council’s Control Centre. The post is initially available for up to 18 months to cover the secondment of another team member.
Duties include responding to calls received from the emergency telecare alarm system that supports vulnerable customers; taking general council queries outside office hours and liaising with council officers and other authorities where necessary; monitoring CCTV; and undertaking regular checks of the alarm monitoring equipment.
You will have excellent communication skills, and will be able to communicate with
clients, some of whom might be confused or distressed. You must have proven administrative skills and the ability to remain calm in a crisis. Experience of working in a caring environment and/ or customer service is desirable.
The job is pressured at times and the successful applicant will be able to demonstrate good decision-making skills. As the role involves handling queries from the public, council officers and residents, a patient, professional manner is essential.
The Post Holder will be required to work mainly within the Control Centre, working on a shift basis.
The shift pattern rotates on a three shift basis (mornings, afternoons and nights) and will include significant lone working, sometimes during evenings and nights. This may include some or all public holidays and weekends. Working hours for the post differ from those of other Council staff, but contractual hours, leave allowance et cetera are equivalent pro rata. You may also be requested to work relief hours covering for annual leave and sickness. Lone working is sometimes necessary.
Knowledge of a call handling operation or the Lifeline (Telecare) Service would be an advantage. The ability to use ICT systems confidently is essential, but full training will be provided.
Due to the nature of the job, applicants will need to be flexible as the position may entail changes of duty at short notice.
