Planning Policy Technician (Apprentice)

Full Time – Permanent

Redbridge is an ambitious, diverse and exciting east-London borough. What we do is driven by changing our relationship with local people to support our vision. As a result, we've developed innovative ways to build our communities and transform our Council.

We're one of the fastest growing parts of the country and the third most diverse London borough. Our communities are attracted by a mixture of excellent schools, relatively affordable housing, high-quality open space and rapid transport connections into the heart of the City.

Do you want to help shape the development of Redbridge helping communities to decide on the best way to use land and buildings?

Our Planning Policy Technician Apprentice role offers you the chance to start your career in planning and be involved in shaping policies and decisions that impact on your local community.

Redbridge Council's planning service has won the Local Authority Planning Team of the Year in the National Planning Awards 2020.

As part of the Planning Policy Technician role you will be supported to undertake and achieve a Degree level apprenticeship accredited by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) with Southbank University. The apprenticeship will be fully funded by the council and you will be given time off for study as required for the duration of the apprenticeship which is typically between 4 to 5 years depending on any previous qualifications achieved.

Once you complete your degree there is the potential to move through the career progression levels within the team and continue your career with us.

You will also need to demonstrate an awareness for planning issues and developments, and an ability to read and scale drawings. Above all, you will show a passion for the work we are doing and the drive to achieve great results.

Applicants will have A-levels or equivalent qualifications that would allow entry onto an appropriate RTPI degree course and be committed to undertake the study required to obtain an MA.

Priority will be given to applicants who live in the borough of Redbridge.
