We are looking to recruit a Street Scene Supervisor who has proven experience in managing large teams of employees in a fast-paced environment.
On top of the advertised starting salary there is up to £9k contractual over time.
Street Scene Services cover the whole of the north of the County, covering 350 square miles.
The Street Scene Management Team are responsible for delivery of all Street Scene Services across Aylesbury Vale, this includes all cleansing activities such as litter picking, mechanical sweeping, fly-tip, and graffiti removal, and all other cleansing activities in place to keep the area's clean and safe for residents and visitors. Street Scene also includes grounds maintenance activities, such as grass cutting, shrub, and hedge maintenance, provision, and management of sports facilities including football and cricket pitches. The team is also responsible for the management of 45+ play areas.
No two days are ever the same, and the Street Scene Management Team prides themselves on their ability to react professionally to the interesting and diverse challenges that managing a large operation brings.
As the face of the Council, Street Scene operatives are seen by all residents and customers every day. Street Scene Supervisors provide bespoke on-street training with their teams. This involves monitoring operatives while they operate in the Vale and provide feedback and training and ensuring compliance with health and safety and risk assessments.
About the role
The role involves shared directional management of 50 frontline operatives, from day to day delivery of the street scene services, ensuring health and safety compliance, accident investigations, and performance management.
As one of three Street Scene Supervisors, you will be required to be flexible in your working hours between an early and late rota-based shift pattern. As Street Scene activities are required seven days per week, weekend work is required on a shift pattern between the three roles.
This role is responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the heavily regulated statutory and non-statutory in-house Street Scene service. This covers all aspects of cleaning and grounds maintenance activities across the north of Buckinghamshire. There are training opportunities available, including gaining accredited qualifications within the industry.
The role holder must be confident to work in a high-risk and challenging environment as they are accountable for sensible and reactive decision making that ensures the services remain fully compliant with industry and health and safety legislation.
The Street Scene Supervisor will form part of a leadership team of 50 frontline operatives who have direct line management of approximately 17 staff. This management involves but is not limited to, being able to design and deliver bespoke and technical training, complete accident and disciplinary investigations, deliver on KPI's and proactively manage sickness.
The successful candidate will contribute to the development of service policies, processes, and projects, and will also be required to understand strategic objectives and the vision for Street Scene services and how their work contributes to achieving these.
The role holder will have a responsibility to identify ways to continually develop and improve the customer experience, whilst ensuring that service compliance is not put at risk.

Health and safety is key to maintaining our operation and the role holder will be expected to have knowledge of legislative requirements within the industry. The role holder must have the ability to take ownership of complex and sometimes challenging issues and applying innovative solutions to resolving them whilst meeting timescales.

- Quickly problem-solve issues such as vehicle/equipment breakdowns, lack of staff, road closures, accidents, and others. The role holder must ensure the operation runs smoothly and any challenges faced do not damage reputation.
- Degree level education or significant relevant work experience in the specialist field (Horticulture/Grounds Maintenance, Street Cleansing)
- Full Driving Licence
- Shift patterns (early/duty) based on a shift rota), some weekend work.
