About the role
The services delivered by the Communities, Economy and Transport department (CET) have an enormous impact on the lives of local people and the natural environment. From operating waste facilities and registration offices, to maintaining roads and major infrastructure planning, the moment an East Sussex resident steps outside their front door, they are interacting with our work. Therefore, roles in our department offer enormous scope to make a positive impact on the quality of life for people and the environment of East Sussex. We are looking for people who can help us to improve the links between the areas we operate in, such as using libraries, improving adult literacy, transporting vulnerable people to the shops to help keep them independent or installing high speed broadband to support businesses to modernise.
In the Archives Team we care for, preserve and develop archive collections. We provide a state of the art conservation service using our purpose-built facilities while also providing a cost-effective records management service for the council and a range of external clients. We also seek to provide an environment where learning and discovery can be enjoyed through a programme of cultural engagement events at The Keep.
Our Archive Assistants play a key role in supporting the public in accessing our resources and archival holdings. The role will involve supporting customers with varying levels of knowledge about archives to make the most of their visit. The role is varied as no customer or enquiry is quite the same.
You will need to enjoy working with all types of people, have good basic computer skills, an ability to impart information clearly and patiently, and have some interest in history, heritage or archives.
For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Annette Moss on 01273 335084.
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.

Due to the restrictions we cannot guarantee that individuals that meet the requirements of the Points-based Immigration System will be issued with clearance to obtain work permits.
