Interview date: Week commencing 7 June

About the role

Do you love Brighton & Hove? Join us in telling the story of how we can make a difference to the city's future with actions to tackle the climate and biodiversity emergency.

We're looking for an ambitious, creative and visionary Climate Communications & Engagement Lead to drive forward a Carbon Neutral 2030 communication and engagement programme.

This will be supported by a campaign that will enthuse and motivate the wider city community in supporting a whole city approach to climate action.

We welcome applications from all sections of the community but particularly encourage applicants from a BME or White Other background as well as those who identify as disabled, LGB, male or trans as these groups are currently under-represented in our Directorate workforce.

A fixed-term contract is available until 30 April 2023.

Brighton & Hove declared a climate and biodiversity emergency in 2018 and is committed to becoming a carbon neutral city by 2030. In March 2021 the council introduced a carbon neutral plan to take forward an ambitious programme of actions.

In this exciting role, you will support the council and the wider city as we work together to address the climate and biodiversity emergency. You will use communications to amplify the impact of sustainability initiatives and engage with communities, businesses, employees and other stakeholders across the city region, nationally and internationally.

We’re looking for an experienced and highly skilled communications professional who can craft creative content and engage with a diverse range of audiences.

You will support the strategic development of our climate and biodiversity communications and contribute to the council’s carbon neutral agenda.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent partnership working, a focus on including all communities, strategic and innovative thinking and leadership and team skills.

What’s it like to work in the Communications Team at Brighton & Hove City Council?

We believe in creating an environment where everyone supports each other to develop, learn and achieve their full potential.

We’re nurturing an open, creative and collaborative culture where all team members have a say and responsibility for how the service is shaped and evolves. We’re made up of friendly and talented people, who through our individual personalities and styles create an exciting and ambitious working environment.

Our staff should reflect the people we’re communicating with, so bring your different views and experiences and help us make sure our messages and campaigns are relevant and appealing.

Join us in showing how we make a real difference to the lives of people living in the city and what makes Brighton & Hove the best place in the UK to live, work and visit.
