The Brighton and Hove Safeguarding Adults Board (BHSAB) is a multi-agency partnership that is responsible for overseeing and co-ordinating local safeguarding arrangements for adults with care and support needs.
The BHSAB are looking to recruit a new Independent Chair for the BHSAB in order to build on the current strong foundations that have been created in recent years and to continue to take forward the adult safeguarding agenda in an objective and dynamic manner.
This is a consultancy role and it is anticipated that it will need a maximum of 20 days per year, which will be paid at £600 per day, inclusive of any travel costs. The arrangement will be for an initial period of two years with an annually renewable contract subject to six months notice by either side.

About the role
The BHSAB is led by Brighton and Hove City Council, Sussex Police and the Brighton and Hove Clinical Commissioning Group (as part of Sussex NHS Commissioners) with partners from a range of statutory and non-statutory organisations.
The Independent Chair has a key role to lead collaboratively, give advice, support and encouragement but also to offer constructive challenge and hold main partner agencies to account ensuring that there is effective alignment between differing strategic functions and agendas.
The successful candidate needs to be able to communicate effectively in a range of settings, including public meetings. They need to have proven experience of leading and managing in a large public, independent or voluntary sector organisation at a senior level, experience of chairing complex strategic partnership meetings as well as knowledge and experience in applying legislation and statutory guidance in relation to safeguarding adults.
Please note that the Independent Chair will perform Office Holder duties. Payments will be made through the council’s payroll and tax and NI deductions will be made at source via PAYE in line with current HMRC guidelines. Where applicable, it is expected that IR35 rules apply to this appointment.
